Use the peapod image above as a visual tool when you talk about hunger cues. You can use it before and after meals and snacks. The more you and your child practice talking about your cues, the more natural it will be.
Role model by pointing to the pea that shows how you are feeling. Then describe your cues.
For example: “I am feeling so hungry this morning. I know I am hungry because my stomach is growling. Also, I feel tired since I have not eaten since dinner last night.”
After you have described your cues, encourage your child to use the peas to show and explain how she is feeling.
Use the simple steps below to help get you started:
- Choose a pea.
- Describe how you are feeling.
