Most children are ready to start eating a variety of table foods around 12 months of age. When your child reaches this age, the foods WIC provides will change. WIC foods for 1-year-olds are similar to the foods for older children and moms. These healthy foods will help your child learn to try a lot of new tastes and textures.
One big change is that WIC does not provide infant formula to children after age 12 months. For children aged 12 to 24 months, WIC provides whole milk. In rare cases, if a child has a medical condition, a health care provider may provide a prescription for extended infant formula or low-fat milk.
You can prepare your family’s favorite foods and share them with your child! It is an exciting time for you and your family. Your child will enjoy sitting with the family at mealtime and sharing meals together.
